Wilhelm Furtwängler se enfrentó tres veces en su vida a la grabación de Tristan e Isolda de Richard Wagner, en 1941, 1943 y 1952. Los fragmentos que componen este EP, en la voz de la soprano más wagneriana que ha dado la Historia del “bel canto”, Kirsten Flagstad, corresponden a la grabación de 1952, realizada en Londres para la Voz de su Amo, con la Orquesta Filarmonía y un grupo de extraordinarios solistas, en el estudio de Kingsway Hall. Está considerada la mejor grabación jamás conseguida de esta ópera. La coloratura y bello registro de la voz de la Flagstad (a sus cincuenta años) resuelven magistralmente los requerimientos de dos monólogos del Acto III: Ich bin’s, Ich bin’s y Mild und Leiser.
Wilhelm Furtwängler faced the recording of Wagner’s opera Tristan und Isolde for three times, in 1941, 1943 and 1952. The excerpts in this EP, performed by Kirsten Flagstad, the best Wagnerian soprano’s voice that occurred in the History of “bel canto”, belong to the recording session hold at London in 1952, in the Kingsway Hall studio, with a group of superb soloists and the Philharmonia Orchestra. It was an assignment of His Master’s Voice Company and is considered the best record ever done of this opera. The coloratura and mature register of the Flagstad’s voice (she was then fifty years old) make a masterly performance of two monologues of the IIIrd. Act: Ich bin’s, Ich bin’s and Mild und Leiser.
