La Sinfonía nº 4 en La mayor, Op. 90, “Italiana” fue descrita por Mendelssohn como “la más gozosa de todas las obras que he compuesto, en especial su último tiempo”. Sin embargo no fue interpretada ni publicada en Alemania en vida del autor porque estaba poco satisfecho, precisamente, de su final. Pero es sin duda una sinfonía brillante, exuberante, ligera…
En esa línea de naturalidad expresiva, gracia y ligereza creadora cabe situar la Obertura de El sueño de una noche de verano, Op. 21, obra juvenil escrita en 1826 bajo el influjo de una representación de la comedia homónima de Shakespeare. Mucho más tarde, en 1842, completó las otras partes con el Op. 61, de las que en esta lectura se ofrecen sólo las tres más conocidas.

In that line of naturally expressive, grace and creative lightness can be considered the Overture of A Midsummer’s Night Dream. Op. 21, juvenile work written in 1826 under the influence of a representation of Shakespeare's comedy of the same name. Much later, in 1842, completed the other parts with the Op. 61, of which are offered in this reading only the three most famous.
