Tannhauser (Obertura)

This disk that has a great sentimental value to me: it is the first one I bought spending my own pocket money, passing 1956, when I was thirteen years old. I listen it every evening during many days. My child’s imagination transformed the illustration in the jacket into an immense flat landscape as the horn quartet played the main theme, where a knight was riding toward the remote castle. But well, lets to get to the point. The Wienerphilharmoniker conducted by W. Furtwängler performs this Tannhauser Overture. According to the data I could obtain, the recording session was done in December 1-2, 1952, in the Vienna Musikvereinsaal. Then, it is one of the latest records by this conductor, who passed away in 1954. As many other of his performances, this is considered a “historical recording”.
