En 1933 se estrenaba en el Teatro de Montecarlo el ballet El Danubio Azul (Le Beau Danube), con música de Johann Strauss hijo arreglada por Roger Désormière y coreografía de Leonide Massine. La partitura, que es la que ahora importa, contiene una serie de temas musicales straussianos seleccionados por Déssormière para dar vida a una historia de amores entre un húsar y una joven aristócrata.
De la ópera de Gioachino Rossini Guillermo Tell, estrenada en París en 1829, sólo su obertura ha resistido el paso del tiempo dada su complejidad técnica y su enorme duración (más de seis horas). La obra contiene un largo ballet muy del gusto de la época, pieza poco interpretada en los programas de concierto, lo que hace de esta grabación una auténtica rareza.
La versión es de Jean Martinon dirigiendo la Orquesta Filarmónica de Londres.

The score (which is important now) is a series of straussian musical themes selected by Désormière for casting a story of love between a hussar and a young aristocratic lady.
From Gioachino Rossini’s William Tell, premiered in Paris in 1829, only its overture resisted through the ages given the technical complexity and long-lasting (more than six hours) of the opera. The score includes a long ballet very liking in the time, a piece little performed nowadays, what makes this recording a real rarity.
The performance is by Jean Martinon conducting The London Philharmonic Orchesta.
