Concerti Armonici atribuidos a Giovanni B. Pergolesi (Re-post)

The premature death of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi at 26 years old and the impact of his comic intermezzo "La Serva Padrona", true antecedent of the Italian opera, gave this author an unusual posthumous fame throughout Europe. This resulted in many compositions of mediocre author published using Pergolesi's name, taking advantage of these circumstances. But that's not the case of these Harmonics Concerts, published by Ricciotti in 1740, four years after the death of the musician, whose original manuscript is unknown. For many years Ricciotti was considered the author but documentary research suggests that he was not. There is a modern copy in which the music is attributed to Pergolesi (others say to Händel), serving the poor argument to be included among the author's complete works in the catalog produced in 1940s in Italy. Documents recently found point truly to Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer as the author.

Conciertos atribuidos a Giovanni B. Pergolesi

If there is currently no doubt that the Concerti Armonici attributed to Giovanni Battista Pergolesi were written by Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer, that is not the case with two Concertos for flute, which manuscript was found in Stockholm in the early twentieth century. Because this manuscript, despite announcing to be Pergolesi music, was cast by a little skillful copyist that can not be trusted. The style of these concerts, however, is much closer to that of Pergolesi than the Concerti Armonici. It should be written by an Italian flutist who knew quite well the technique of the instrument, particularly breathing.
