Richard Wagner: "Lohengrin" y "Los Maestros Cantores"

The Prelude of the 1st Act of “Lohengrin” develops a choral theme by the strings with notable interventions of the tubes, always in a tessitura of almost religious quietness. It suggests to me the placid arrival of the knight Lohengrin transported by a swan to the Bravant countrie.
The Overture of “The Mastersingers of Nuremberg”, on the contrary, is a brilliant and happy score. Not in vain this is the only
Richard Wagner’s opera devoted to a comedy.
The disc has the attractive to be a performance of the Detroit Symphonic Orchestra after being renewed in the 1950s under the baton of the then 70 years old French conductor Paul Paray.

Wilhelm Furtwängler faced the recording of Wagner’s opera Tristan und Isolde for three times, in 1941, 1943 and 1952. The excerpts in this EP, performed by Kirsten Flagstad, the best Wagnerian soprano’s voice that occurred in the History of “bel canto”, belong to the recording session hold at London in 1952, in the Kingsway Hall studio, with a group of superb soloists and the Philharmonia Orchestra. It was an assignment of His Master’s Voice Company and is considered the best record ever done of this opera. The coloratura and mature register of the Flagstad’s voice (she was then fifty years old) make a masterly performance of two monologues of the IIIrd. Act: Ich bin’s, Ich bin’s and Mild und Leiser.
