Las dos primeras sinfonías de Ludwig van Beethoven fueron compuestas cuando el autor entraba en la treintena de años de edad. Ambas muestran una fuerte influencia de Haydn junto a no pocos rasgos de la personalidad del genio de Bonn. La Sinfonía nº 1 en Do mayor, Op. 21, se ajusta al corte clásico, con un minueto en el tercer movimiento, aunque Beethoven lo lleva a un ritmo más acelerado que el habitual de un minueto. La Sinfonía nº 2 en Re mayor, Op. 36, marca claramente el espíritu innovador del compositor y, aunque la orquestación se ajusta al canon del clasicismo, sustituye el minueto por un scherzo, abriendo camino hacia el sinfonismo romántico. Aunque recibió algunas duras críticas (se le tachó de excéntrico), la sonoridad y el poder de su música se impuso sobre todo lo demás.
The first two Ludwig van Beethoven symphonies were written when the author entered the age of thirty. Both show a strong influence of Haydn with quite a fewpersonality traits of the genius ofBonn. The Symphony No.1 in C major, Op 21, fits the classic cut, with a minuet in the third movement, although Beethoven leads to a faster pace than usual of a minuet. The Symphony No.2 in D major, Op 36,clearly marks the composer's innovative spirit, and though the orchestration is consistent with the canon of classicism, he replace the minuet by ascherzo, opening the way to the romantic symphonic music. Although he received some harsh criticism (he was attacked as an outlier), the sound and power of his music prevailed over everything else.
