Devy Erlih has been an extraordinary French violinist little known out of the borders of his own country. A few, dispersed notices about his biography can be found in Internet. He was violin teacher in the Paris Conservatory, author of didactic texts. His repertory is wide, performing music from Baroque masters up to contemporary scores, particularly music of André Jolivet (his father-in-law) including soloist violin. Some of his old records are nowadays being re-edited in CD format. I can say as a curiosity that some of his disks have reached astronomic prices in sales by auction (up to 1,800 USD).
His mastery can be appreciated in this EP, performing music of Pugnani, Albéniz and Falla in Kreisler’s transcriptions. Maurice Bureau plays the piano part.
